FLYING TO TAIWAN?

You´re about to give that big step before your cycling adventure and we´re here to give some help during the process!

Things to Keep in Mind

When going on a Taiwan Cycling Tour it is important to plan your route very well. Not only during the biking trip itself but before and after too. We make the first step easy by offering a comprehensible Taiwan biking trip that will take you through many beautiful and memorable Taiwanese locales. Then comes the Pre-trip Planning and we got you covered there as well with our handy guide.

One of the most important steps after booking your cycling adventure with Taiwan Cycling Tour is to book a flight to Taipei; the starting point of our tours. Here is some important information on how to proceed with getting to Taiwan.

Where to fly?

All our tours start in Taipei. There is a smaller airport, Songshan “TSA” which serves only a small portion of the international flights for Taipei compared to the larger Taoyuan International Airport “TPE”. Flying to any of these 2 airports is our recommended option as they are close to the city.

You could also fly to Kaohsiung International Airpor “KHH”. The airport is in the other side of the country from Taiwan, so this option would require you to transfer to Taipei by air or land.

Transfer from TPE to Taipei City

Taiwan Cycling Transfer

For an additional cost, we can offer you a shuttle service from the TPE airport to the hotel. The price will depend on how many people will ride at one time, the time of day and other factors so, please contact us if you want to use the service and we´ll quote you.

Airport Shuttles

You can also use airport shuttle services. You can try your luck trying to find some shuttles upon arrival but we recommend using companies like Blacklane and Airport Shuttles that can be booked online. The price is usually quite high but if you book online you can pay it with a credit card instead of scrambling from cash upon arrival.

Bus

This is by far the cheapest way of getting to the city. Please check the Taoyuan airport´s official page to see the most updated info regarding buses and routes.

Taxi

Another safe choice to get from the airport to Taipei. Drivers are usually good enough at English speaking to take you where you need to go, but try to have your phone with the google maps app handy in case you need to show them where to go. Prices are around 50$ for a 40-minute ride to the city center.

Transfer from TSA to Taipei City

Taiwan Cycling Transfer

We can take you from Sonshang Airport to the hotel and since it is right in the city the price should be lower than if you needed transfer from the international airport. Contact us before booking to get a quote!

Airport Shuttles

Just like we recommend if you arrive at the TPE, try to book a shuttle service ahead of time. Doing it online will make sure the drivers are there waiting for you and you know exactly how much it costs before booking.

MRT

Since arriving at Songshan mean you´ll already be in Taiwan it is much easier to take the metro downtown and then walk the rest of the way to the hotel.

Bus

This remains the cheapest option but there are many different lines going all over the place so the risk of boarding the wrong bus and realizing it too late is high. You can still try it as long as you are sure of which line to take to arrive at the hotel.

Taxi

Taxi is a much better option if you arrive at the TSA. You will pay much less since the drive to the hotel is much shorter. Be prepared for non-English speaking drivers. Have a map handy to show them where you need to go.

Transfer from KHH to Taipei City

High-Speed Rail

You can take a taxi or a bus from Kaohsiung Airport to the High-Speed Rail station and from there just ride it to Taipei. The trip should take about 1 hour and a half and cost around USD $17.

Train

There is the option of riding the regular train from Kaohsiung to Taipei. The trip will take about 4 hours and cost only half as much as taking the high-speed rail. This will potentially give you a better view of the Taiwanese west coast.

Bus

Taking a bus all the way to Taipei is also a choice, just ask about a connection from KHH to the Kaohsiung bus station and then a direct bus to the capital. The ride will be quite long (8+ hours) and the cost varies, but it is cheaper than train tickets or taxis.
